FareShare Midlands Narborough Hub continues to distribute good quality surplus food to hungry families in Leicestershire. The Hub was opened in November 2018 in partnership with Central England Co-op, who were keen to cut their food waste.
Out-of-date ambient and fresh food is collected by staff at the Co-op distribution centre in Braunstone Frith and delivered to the Narborough Hub.

Staff and volunteers then rapidly redistribute this food to vulnerable people through 490 local community organisations tackling food poverty. Working with FareShare means these groups can support many more families and individuals, by offering access to food and delivering meals to the vulnerable, the elderly, and children in schools.

Members
The FareShare Midlands Narborough Hub is seeking additional groups to support, including community cafes or pantries, before and after school clubs, hostels and luncheon clubs.  They would love to hear from any of these kinds of organisations that would benefit from this food.
Volunteers

The Hub requires passionate people to volunteer in the warehouse. Volunteers perform essential tasks, such as driving the vans making collections and deliveries, and sorting and packing the food.

FareShare Midlands Director, Simone Connolly said

“Since the start of the COVID19 pandemic we have seen an ongoing rise in food poverty. Winter is always a busy time of year, but this year – with the surge of Omicron – we are experiencing even greater need. We would like to help more local groups helping people suffering the effects of poverty, and we need more volunteers to lend a hand”.

Over the coming months, FareShare Midlands needs food donations from local food companies looking to divert their surplus food away from landfill. The organisation always needs compassionate individuals to help raise funds. And, as already mentioned, the work of volunteers is crucial to the success of FareShare’s work.
