Homeless and vulnerable people in Loughborough are being offered vital support by a charity that always seeks to go “the extra mile” on their behalf.
Falcon Support Services has 10 sites offering accommodation, food and a range of support services to the growing number of people who call on its services in the Leicestershire town. This includes breakfasts, lunches and discretionary food parcels.A registered charity, its mission is to help people live independently and positively contribute to their community. It seeks to promote the dignity of its service-users at all times by providing high quality, stable, supportive environments and accommodation during the transition into independence. In addition, it also helps vulnerable people develop the social and life skills necessary to plan and prepare for their futures and help them full integrate into the local community.
“This is exactly the kind of organisation we were set up to support,” commented Alyson Oliver, Head of Membership Services at FareShare East Midlands. “Falcon Support Services does some wonderful work in north Leicestershire, and we just want to be able to support them as much as we can.”
The charity, which was formed in 2001, has enjoyed a long-standing association with FareShare East Midlands, benefitting from our paid-for Member service for several years. In 2017, it also joined forces with FareShare Go, benefitting from Tesco’s free food scheme in the town.
“Like so many organisations, we need to ensure our money goes as far as it possibly can,” commented Manager, Julie Alexander. “And being a part of FareShare has really helped us do this.
“We get a weekly delivery of quality foods that help us feed a lot of people. In addition, we collect foods from Tesco, and these have really helped a lot of people in recent months.
“The overwhelming majority of the people we support exist on benefits. This means they do not have a lot of cash. And they have to be really careful how they spend it.
“FareShare food ensures they get good, well-balanced, nutritious meals every day of the week. And it ensures we can control our costs. It’s a real win-win.”
Loughborough MP, Nicky Morgan, is Patron of the charity. She has held the role for several years.
