Check out our great Member Service

Delivering quantity and quality – and putting you firmly in control.

Our Member service gives you a weekly supply of fresh food and store cupboard staples for your charity or community group – saving you money without compromising the quality or quantity of the food your receive.

Perhaps you need fresh meat and vegetables for your lunch club or tins and packets for your food bank? Whatever your needs, you decide how much you receive and the types of foods we offer you.

When you become a Member, you will be linked to our South Wigston or Holmewood regional centre. This centre will manage your relationship with FareShare Midlands and provide surplus food to you, which you can collect in person (saving you money), or we can deliver it to you on a day of your choice.

To register your interest in our Member service, please complete our Contact form (located, right). Once we receive this form, a member of our team will be in touch to take you through the sign-up process.

About the food

The food you receive is ‘surplus’. It could be from a grower, a manufacturer or a retailer’s distribution centre. And it has been donated to us because a company it has decided it is not going to be sold before it hits the supermarket shelf.

Why choose Community Food Membership?

  • On average our members receive a minimum of 150kg of surplus food every week – but you are in control at all times. Simply tell us how much your organisation needs and we’ll do the rest
  • You will get everything from meat, dairy and fish to vegetables, pasta and tins. We work with you to create your food profile. The exact food you receive depends on what becomes surplus that week. Sometimes you might get unexpected treats (like steak) as well as good old staples
  • We will support you on food safety. You will receive advice and guidance regarding food safety best practice from our trained staff
  • We provide volunteer opportunities, which means your community can volunteer with FareShare Midlands and develop its skills and training

Our annual Membership fee

FareShare Midlands is a non-profit charity. To remain sustainable, we charge a nominal fee to cover our operational costs. This includes warehouse space, chillers, administration, maintenance of our delivery vehicles, all fuel costs and any associated staff costs.

Can my organisation receive food?

In order to receive food, your organisation must demonstrate that you are fit to provide a safe food service to your users. That’s why, when you apply to become a Member, we check you are:

  • Registered with your local Environmental Health Office (we can support you with this)
  • Equipped to safely receive, store, prepare and serve food
  • Hold the IEHO Basic Food Hygiene Course Certificate (or equivalent), which ensures your staff are competent at supervising food handling and preparation
  • Trained to safely handle food (this applies to staff and volunteers)
  • Fit to adhere to food safety legislation and current best practice

But don’t worry about any of these points. We will help you reach these standards if you are not quite there yet.
