Miles for Meals

1 in 8 people in the UK currently struggle to afford to eat

Join our active challenge to get your body moving to support vulnerable people in the Midlands living in food poverty.

To help battle this issue we’ve launched an active challenge to get your body moving, whilst fundraising to help support vulnerable people in the Midlands living in food poverty.

Our Goal is to raise £1,250, allowing us to distribute an extra 5000 meals!

Miles for Meals is an exciting new opportunity open to all! Walk, run, cycle (or any other mode you like), as many miles as you choose from 19th-27th September 2020.

The flexibility of this challenge really puts you in control, choose to do 10 miles in one day, or 40 miles spread across the week. Join forces with friends, family or work colleagues to increase the distance and raise even more funds to support people living in food poverty. Take the challenge with you on your weekend away, go off-road, use the treadmill in the gym or cycle routes in the country… take on the challenge, but do it your way!

How to get started:

Simply sign up right here on our website and you’ll receive all the information you need via email, including a unique link to your own JustGiving page which can be shared with family, friends, and across social media, so people can donate to your fundraiser!

Once you’ve pledged the number of miles you’re challenging yourself to, don’t forget to celebrate your sign-up across social media: #MilesforMeals and tagging @FareShareMidlands Twitter @FareShareMids Spread the word! To help raise awareness and raise funds, spreading the word is vital.

We’ve come up with some snappy messages for all participants to use across their social media:

  • I'm cycling [insert amount] miles for @FareShareMidlands #MilesforMeals this September! FareShare Midlands redistribute surplus food from the food industry that would otherwise go to waste, to frontline charity organisations who support vulnerable people. During the pandemic, FareShare Midlands saw the demand for food skyrocket, and have been helping to support more people living in food poverty than ever before. They need our help, so join me or sponsor me and help get food to vulnerable people in the UK - [your unique JustGiving URL]
  • I'm running [insert amount] miles to help @FareShareMidlands Fight Hunger and Tackle Food Waste this September. Please sponsor #MilesforMeals today. Just £8 is enough for 32 meals for vulnerable people across the Midlands. > [your unique JustGiving URL]
  • This September I'm walking [insert amount] miles for #MilesforMeals for @FareShareMids to raise money to help feed vulnerable people. Join in or donate > [your unique JustGiving URL]

FAQs

Is there a minimum distance I have to do?
We would advise at least 1 mile to keep it a whole number, although this is not necessary, we want this to be as flexible as possible, so feel free to do a distance that suits you!

Can children take part?
Of course, everyone is welcome!

How do I track my miles?
We will send you the instructions via email once you’ve signed up, the miles will be tracked using the STRAVA app on your smartphone device. Alternative options are available at request for those not using a smartphone.

Do I have to complete my miles on those dates?
If you can’t complete your miles between 19 and 27 September that’s OK, just let us know when you will be completing your challenge. Any funds you raise will still count towards our target and help get meals to people who need them.

How do people donate to my fundraiser?
Simply share your unique JustGiving page link on your social media, and send it via email or text message to friends and family. The link will take them to your online fundraiser page where they can donate.

How many meals will £1 make?
£1 is equivalent to 4 meals going to vulnerable people living in food poverty in the Midlands.
