Our drivers are the vital link between us and our charity members. As a driver you will drop off the weekly orders of food at local charities and collect surplus from food businesses with the help of a driver's assistant.

Last year FareShare Midlands redistributed almost 6,000 tonnes of good-to-eat surplus food – that’s the equivalent of approximately 1,000 elephants! Clearly, not all of this is simply what you might find in the “reduced to clear” area in your local supermarket. Surplus food is, put simply, food that is surplus to requirement – and can be found at any stage of the food production chain, including: farms and growers, production and manufacturers, supermarkets and grocery stores, and hospitality and event providers.

Our core mission has never been more vital, with 8.4m people in the UK struggling to afford to eat, and 22,500 children living in poverty in Nottingham alone. Despite the rise in the costs of fuel, food and energy, we continue to deliver nutritious surplus food to local community organisations who are tackling hunger, poverty and the effects of the cost of living crisis.

​Swedish electric car brand Polestar recently opened its new retail Space at the Touchwood Centre, Solihull by hosting a launch event with a sustainable twist. Guests, including members of the media, were asked to bring a tote bag of non-perishable food, which was then matched by Polestar and donated to FareShare Midlands.

Between Friday 22nd April and Friday 29th April, FareShare Midlands has been selected to participate in The Green Match Fund 2022 online. The food redistribution charity is aiming to raise £10,000 in matched funding, to deliver 40,000 meals to people in the Midlands struggling with the rising cost of food and energy. By using surplus food in this way, FareShare Midlands will also stop 17 tonnes of food from being wasted.
