On Tuesday 13th June, FareShare featured on ITV News to talk about the massive increase in demand we’ve seen for our services. The Waste Britain report, a collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire, found the Government saves nearly £118 million a year by getting nutritious, edible food to charities rather than letting it go to waste.

Simone Connolly, CEO of FareShare Midlands, said:

"Demand for the services and food that FareShare supplies is at unprecedented levels, higher than we have ever seen before. We already redistribute enough food to contribute to 13 million meals every single year, that could easily be 20 million meals. We have hundreds of organisations on the waiting list to join our service, but the reality is the food just isn't there."

As demand continues to soar, we’re asking the Government to commit £25 million a year. That investment would support farmers and food businesses to redistribute their surplus food without adding to their costs, and deliver 100 million meals to those experiencing food insecurity.
