Simone said “I’ve been involved with FareShare for over 16 years, and I’m just as passionate about our cause today, as I was all those years ago.  Joining when my firstborn was just a babe-in-arms and as I was wrestling with demands of new motherhood I also passionately wanted to volunteer for the then ‘Leicester FoodShare’. I needed to join the fight against two issues that I simply couldn’t ignore; firstly, good food being wasted while people around me in the City of Leicester were going hungry. And secondly, refugees entering our City looking for refuge, warmth, love and food, and discovering a sector that was ill-prepared to support them.

Fast forward 15 years and, naturally, I’m incredibly proud of FareShare Midlands and all that we’ve achieved so far. I am delighted to now be in the privileged position of Chief Executive, overseeing the delivery of our strategy over the next three years and beyond.  At the same time, I’m truly grateful for all the support that we’ve received from FareShare UK over the years – from food to funding (and everything in between), and also for the personal support they have given to me over the years.

Nowadays, the wider and fabulous teams at FareShare Midlands manage the day-to-day relationships with FareShare UK, and so I decided last year that I would step up and join the FareShare UK Board. My ambition is that I can help to inform the Board of the richness of the FareShare network – a network beyond the KPIs and targets that so often is all that a Board of Trustees gets to see.  FareShare UK and the FareShare network co-exist – one doesn’t work without the other. I hope that my involvement as a Trustee will help the Board have a more balanced view and a deeper understanding of our amazing network.

Also, it is my strong view that good leaders should continue to learn, in exactly the same way as those that they lead. My role on the FareShare UK Board is certainly helping to broaden and develop my skills, which I believe will benefit FareShare Midlands too.”
