On Tuesday 19th July, FareShare Midlands launched an innovative new meal production project in the commercial kitchen at Loxley House, Nottingham City Council’s HQ. In partnership with Nottingham Catering at the City Council, FareShare UK and Sainsbury’s, FareShare Midlands will produce meals that will be delivered directly to local charitable and not-for-profit organisations who are tackling hunger, poverty and the escalating effects of the cost of living crisis.

​FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity, turning an environmental problem into a social solution. With 8.4m people in the UK struggling to afford to eat, and 131,000 children living in poverty in Birmingham alone, FareShare Midlands core mission has never been more vital. The charity continues to supply good quality surplus food to local community organisations who are tackling hunger, poverty and the effects of the cost of living crisis. At the same time, FareShare Midlands is expanding its services to vulnerable individuals, by creating access to work and training in warehousing and logistics, through their growing employability programmes.

Despite the rise in the costs of fuel, food and energy, we continue to deliver nutritious surplus food to local community organisations who are tackling hunger, poverty and the effects of the cost of living crisis.

​Swedish electric car brand Polestar recently opened its new retail Space at the Touchwood Centre, Solihull by hosting a launch event with a sustainable twist. Guests, including members of the media, were asked to bring a tote bag of non-perishable food, which was then matched by Polestar and donated to FareShare Midlands.

Between Friday 22nd April and Friday 29th April, FareShare Midlands has been selected to participate in The Green Match Fund 2022 online. The food redistribution charity is aiming to raise £10,000 in matched funding, to deliver 40,000 meals to people in the Midlands struggling with the rising cost of food and energy. By using surplus food in this way, FareShare Midlands will also stop 17 tonnes of food from being wasted.

In our commercial kitchen you will support our trained kitchen staff to help turn good surplus food into delicious meals, through food sorting, preparation, cooking and packaging.

FareShare Midlands was thrilled to be presented with a cheque for £32,421 from the Lincolnshire Co-op, raised by their generous staff and shoppers through their Community Champions scheme!
