A survey carried out by FareShare UK in September/October 2022 assesses the impact of the Cost of Living Crisis on the charities and community groups receiving food from FareShare.

Respondents were asked to reflect on the effects of the crisis on their organisations since January and what they anticipate the impact to be going forward.

Here are some of the key findings in respect of Community Food Members that receive food from FareShare Midlands, to see the impact the crisis is having across the region.

“We deal with quite a lot of families with children in primary school and secondary school. These parents aren’t necessarily immigrants, but are still experiencing working poverty. In these families, both parents could be going to work, but they have run into difficulties because the cost of living has been increasing incrementally over the months. It has come to the point where people are spending what they would normally use on food, to pay for their gas and electricity. They are having to turn to the food parcels we make with the food we get from FareShare”.

Community groups and small charities across the Midlands need our support to keep up with soaring demand. We can help by supplying good quality surplus food to feed local communities. But we need support from individuals and the food industry to help us meet this growing need.
